Considering our limited budget and our strong need in the community for activities for teens and young adults with I/DD, I sat down with parents and caregivers and began brainstorming. We came up with a plan for our Abbreviated Summer Program.
We serve participants ages 12 to 21.
We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-1. We are in session June and July.
There are parents who said they would pay to help us, no matter the price. There were also parents willing to give their time to help us in return for their child’s participation in the program. There were a few with other children that they really needed to have special time with.
We have provided music, science, art, crafts, guest speakers and lots of fun.
This program has been successful in every way.
